Introducing the Testbed T301
Emulating sensors is the latest innovation in Wireless Sensor Networks testbed technology. The Testbed T301 is a new testbed platform based on L-Nodes technology and has been developed by SOWNet Technologies in collaboration with the Technical University of Delft in The Netherlands. It offers a complete package of hardware and software solutions which provide flexibility and can be tailored to specific customer needs. Because the entire platform is open source and hardware specifications are well documented it is easy to develop for, adapt or extend the Testbed T301.
Flexible form factor
The T301 Testbed can be used in a tabletop configuration or installed almost anywhere thanks to the miniature MiniPCs. The Testbed T301 is also available in a 1U 19" rack mountable enclosure, the R301, which supports up to 20 Wireless Sensor Nodes per rack unit. Many R301 units can be combined in a single rack allowing a large testbed to be housed in a single cabinet. By simply reconfiguring the Wireless Sensor Nodes software with different radio transmission power and attenuation settings the testbed can be switched from a multi-hop enviroment to a very high-density single-cell configuration.
With the MiniPCs running Debian Linux and the Wireless Sensor Nodes supporting TinyOS the platform is very open. All components are open source and fully customizable. Middleware for allowing the entire testbed to be reprogrammed with a single command is freely available, open source and already in use at the Technical University of Delft. TinyOS 2.1 support gives immediate access to a large library of pre-existing components, algorithms and protocols such as the Collection Tree Protocol (CTP) and the Dissemination protocol.
